Apostrophe:

An apostrophe is a poem that addresses something that cannot answer, whether it be an object or an absent person.

If I took my poem My briefcase is never half empty, using the apostrophe style, an example would look like this;

I won't lock you my burdened comrade
fearfully embraced by your claustrophobic tomb
with your insides copiously spilling to the floor
do you not wish me to have a life?

Your worn edges make me look old
yet I have only begun to realize my quest
do not assume because we're together I'm your friend
you are simply a reminder of all that must be done.

Regretfully it's time for us to go home
you should sleep until we get there
overwhelmed from the stress of your stagnant contents
I feel obligated to carry you to safety.

I dreamt once that I had left you behind
carefree and unencumbered I skipped to my car
then the image of you penetrated my being
and I could see that you would quiver alone in the dark.
