Lesson Title: Shih

The Shih is a symmetrical lyric form of poetry. Each poem is composed of four lines of either five or seven words to each line. Parallel couplets consisting of either synonyms, antonyms, or other comparative nouns are formed with each line.

Example: (The parallels are bolded)

The moon is awake
For the sleeping sun
A blossoming spring flower
A withered autumn leaf

***

The earth inhales the power
The storm exhales its anger
And across the torrent ocean
We see no land untouched
