Refrain:

Refrain is a repeated verse within a poem or song pertaining to a central topic. The refrain is usually found at the end of a stanza, but may occur between lines.

Didn't you get the memo?

Hesitant, I show up late for the meeting
I slither apologetically to the only vacant chair
darting stares pierce through my soul as I arrive
a brave comrade whispers,
"Didn't you get the memo?"

Casually I come in dockers and deck shoes
decadent suits and ties fill the suffocating atmosphere
I sheepishly meander hiding my attire from the office
eyes over the cubicle,
"Didn't you get the memo?"

Methodically I log into the secure computer system
eruption occurs as all my files are missing
worm virus detected we were meant to individually offload
hand on my shoulder,
"Didn't you get the memo?"

Hungrily I head to the somber lunch room
festive balloons, laughter, cake, and colorful streamers delight
a giant card gets handed to a retiring icon
reading, my friend turns,
"Didn't you get the memo?"

Desperately I rush breathless to my humble desk
table top pristine, boxes stacked neatly in rows
panicked, I scan the environment as my gut wrenches
"Sorry", our eyes lock,
"Didn't you get the memo?"
