Summary: The Canadian Federation of Poets just received patron status from the Governor General of Canada, along with other industry awards and accolades for its pre-eminence in global poetry.

The Canadian Federation of Poets has hit the Super Bowl jackpot this year with a number of honours and changes that will put them among the top-ranked poetry organizations in Canada.

Thanks to the efforts of members which started a movement to get the CFP recognized, they have just received, from Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, an accepted position of Patron for the Canadian Federation of Poets and is happy to lend her endorsement to all CFP efforts.

This is just another indicator that the Canadian Federation of Poets is among the top poetry organizations in Canada, and is honoured that those who are members, helped with that achievement.

In addition, Poetry Canada magazine founder, Tracy Repchuk, who is also the founder and president of the Canadian Federation of Poets, has been promoted to Managing Editor, and welcomes new editor Betty Dobson.


In addition, the CFP has opened another branch office in Burbank, California to help expand poetry and fulfill its mission which is to unite people and organizations from around the world in the global promotion of poets and poetry.

Third Annual Canadian Federation of Poets Youth Poetry Awards

The Canadian Federation of Poets is proud to announce the winners of the third annual Spirit of Youth Poetry Contest.

Our thanks to the teachers, sponsors and most importantly to the writers for making this possible.

The CFP gives special commendation to George Arnold for his creation and support of this event, and his continued efforts to ensure the youth of tomorrow have a voice.

Please come celebrate these wonderful young writers as they read on May 25th at Assumption High School. The event starts at 7:30.  Admission is free!

Second Annual Canadian Federation of Poets Youth Poetry Awards

Friday April 21st at Assumption High School in Burlington was a fabulous event and allowed the CFP to showcase up and coming poetry talent. The event was hosted by CFP Oakville Chair, George Arnold, and he did an amazing job coordinating, and serving as the Master of Ceremonies. Along with the winners, poets featured that evening were Tracy Lynn Repchuk, Klyde Brooks, Andreas Gripp, and Courtney Lazorka. The students were awarded cash and prizes for their winning entries in this years Halton Poetry Contest, and George Arnold, CFP Poet of the Year, was also honoured with a framed certificate and much applauds.

Senior Winners:

1st place: Rose’s Plunge - Laura Kretschmann, Assumption
2nd place: The Forgiving Man – Julienne Mulowayi - St. Thomas Aquinas
3rd place: The Never Ending – Holly Madill - St. Thomas Aquinas

Canadian Federation receives Point of Life Award


Michael Levy, founder of the Point of Life Foundation, announced the Canadian Federation of Poets was receiving this honour for its outstanding work in the promotion of poets, poetry and advancement of the craft on a world wide scale.

Poetry Super Highway Great Poetry Exchange

The 5th Annual Poetry Super Highway Great Poetry Exchange is on with the mission to expose as many people to as many other people's poetry as possible.

In February 2006, the Poetry Super Highway will coordinate a great free exchange of poetry publications amongst poets worldwide. It's not a contest. There are no judges, entry fees, winners, or losers.

Last year, 117 poets participated, and by agreeing to participate, someone will be exposed to your poetry, and you will be exposed to someone else's poetry.

To participate you must volunteer to mail one copy of one poetry book that you have written to one other person participating, in exchange, you will receive in the mail one copy of one poetry book written by another participating poet.

The title of your book, A description of your book no longer than 50 words, Your name, Your mailing address, Your website address (if you have one.)

Pink Ambulance comes to town to resuscitate poetry

From October 12th - 24, 2004 a traveling troop of poets intend to change the public's perception of poetry. They are driving across the country to enlighten the public and spread the word. During this second leg of the journey, they will be reading in places from Saskatchewan to Quebec, and all points in between.

CFP & Burlington Art Centre team up to bring you unique art and poetry events

Poetry Canada, the Canadian Federation of Poets and the Burlington Art Centre are hosting a free event on August 8th, 2004 at 2:00pm, and invite all poets to come and participate in a reading in the BAC courtyard.

It is held in conjunction with the Annual Children's Festival located at Spencer Smith Park in Burlington (across the street)

Families are invited to also read and participate, a workshop for children will be available where they will be taught how to write a Haiku, and then have the opportunity to present their creations to the audience.

It is should be a fun, family filled afternoon of poetry, education and inspiration.

This is the first of many events already scheduled with the BAC through 2005. Look for the announcement of these events which will occur on Nov. 14th, Feb 6th 2005 and April 10th 2005, and will involve a complete art exhibit in the BAC main gallery in which poets are invited to write about the art, and then present on the above dates thier works.

2004 Griffin Award Winners

TORONTO, June 3, 2004 – The Canadian and International winners of the 2004 Griffin Poetry Prize are Anne Simpson's Loop and August Kleinzahler's The Strange Hours Travelers Keep, it was announced tonight at the fourth annual awards event. The C$80,000 Griffin Poetry Prize is the most lucrative award for books of poetry from any country in the world. The Prize is awarded annually for the two best books of poetry (including translations) published in English the previous year.

TOPS becomes affiliate of the Federation

The Canadian Federation of Poets is pleased to announce they have chosen The Ontario Poetry Society (TOPS) to represent the province of Ontario as an official Federation/Affiliate. TOPS has displayed an outstanding commitment to poetry and its members, and this has been recognized by the Federation.

The Canadian Federation of Poets is dedicated to uniting people and organizations around the world in the global promotion of poets and poetry through the education of youth and adults on the importance of poetry in their lives, and providing an environment and community where all poets and organizations can unite to create one voice.

Federation Affiliate TOPS members get to take advantage of a 10% discount on all Federation products/services, this includes membership, contests, and events. Only Federation and affiliate members can submit for inclusion to the printed version of Regina Weese, the official membership magazine that has been a popular on-line literary journal for over a year. You can also submit events and make contest announcements on the literary calendar. You can submit news events that are important to poetry and your organization. You can enter the Chatroom and join in on conversations with other members, post your poetry, all in the privacy of the Federation site. Be sure to take advantage of all of these benefits and more.
