The Halton “Spirit of Youth” Poetry Contest.

 

Who can enter:  The contest is open to all high school students in the Halton Region.

          Category #1 Ages: 12-15      Category #2   Ages: 16 -19

What can I win: All entrants are eligible for great prizes and each entrant automatically gets a t-shirt. In addition, all entries will be published in an anthology following the contest and entrants notified so they can purchase copies. Selected authors will also be invited to read at a public event to wrap up the contest.

What does it cost: The contest is free to enter, with entries limited to one per student.

What are the rules: The rules are simple. Write and submit your original poem of 40 lines or less.  The 40 lines will include title and stanza breaks. Style and subject matter is open to the authors' discretion, though vulgarity, profanity and racism will not be accepted. All entrants must agree to have their work published in the anthology. The deadline for entries is Friday, April 13th, 2007..

How do I enter: Simply email your entry to george@federationofpoets.com but the entry must include your name, age, school name and teacher's name. Entries not containing this info will not be able to be processed.

So what do I do now: Grab your pen, pencil, pc or choice of writing tool and get writing. The theme of the contest is:  I am a poet.
