This month’s featured poet is: Kevin Craig

Kevin is a fairly new member, and volunteer, of the Canadian Federation of Poets. Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, he now resides in nearby Oshawa with his wife Alison and their two children. Kevin has been writing, in one form or another, since his earliest memories. Not until taking an evening memoir-writing workshop with local writing instructor Susan Lynn Reynolds, did he consider publication. The workshop opened up a whole new world in the form of local writing group, The Writers' Circle of Durham Region.

It wasn't until Kevin picked up fellow WCDR member Dorothea Helms' book The Writing Fairy Guide to Calling Yourself a Writer that he allowed himself the courage to do just that. He is now serving his second term as secretary on the WCDR's Board of Directors. He is currently coordinating their 2006 Dan Sullivan Memorial Poetry Contest, along with fellow board member Glady Farquharson. He is also a member of the Writers' Federation of New Brunswick.

Kevin's first real publication came in the form of a Globe & Mail Facts and Arguments non-fiction essay, which was published in January 2003. Since this publication, he has amassed a long list of credits to his name. He has poetry published in Poetry Canada Magazine, Captains of Consciousness Journal, Utmost Christian Writers, Mocha Memoirs (He also won 1st place in Mocha Memoirs' 2003 Poetry Contest.), and Quills Canadian Poetry Magazine (He has also served on the Editorial Board of Quills.). He also has newly accepted poetry appearing in the next issues of Jones Av. Journal and Regina Weese.

Kevin has a recently completed first manuscript of poetry, titled 'Inhaling the Moon (Reflections of the Miramichi)', which he will soon be submitting to publishers. He is also working hard on his novel, 'Summer on Fire', which he would like to see completed by yearend.

Aside from poetry, Kevin also writes fiction, non-fiction, and articles on writing and health issues. His non-poetry publications include; the Toronto Sun, The Oshawa-Whitby This Week, Inkspotter, Babel Magazine, The WCDR Word Weaver and the Write Gallery. One of his fondest writing memories is of being invited to CBC Radio Canada's Toronto studios to record a spoken word essay for their First Person Singular radio program. He is currently freelancing as content writer and editor for a Kentucky-based Holistic health publication.
