This month’s featured poet is: Josie Di Sciascio/Andrews

Josie Di Sciascio/Andrews  is an active member and supporter of the CFP in all its endeavours and missions.
 

She is an active member of the Canadian Federation of Poets in Oakville, Ontario. She is also an organizing poet in the Oakville Poetry Cafe' Monthly Series, as well as Chair for Youth Poetry in P007-08 for Oakville Poetry Month.

Josie Di Sciascio/Andrews was born in Italy and emigrated to Canada at the age of 13. She was educated in Italy for the first part of her life, then pursued her high school studies in Oakville, Ontario. She studied Italian and French Literature at the University of Toronto and received her Bachelor of Education there as well. She has a Masters Degree in Education and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Italian Literature. She has taught French and Italian at both the elementary and secondary levels for many years.

Her passions are reading and writing, especially poetry.
She is also passionate about music, ideas, art, sharing good times with
friends and family, movies and traveling. She has been published in magazines,and several anthologies including: University of Toronto's Comparative LiteratureJournal, Ascent Aspirations Borderlines Anthology, The Canada Cuba LiteraryAlliance, The Ontario Poetry Society's Butterfly Thunder Anthology, Poetry Canada Magazine, Oakville Arts About TownMagazine, The Oakville Bard and The Oakville Poetry Cafe' Chapbook series.

Josie has won several prizes for her work in both Italian and English. Her poetry in Italian won The Jury Prize at the Ottawa Italian Week Literary Contest in 2004, 2005 and 2006. She won the first prize in the freeverse competition of the Ontario Poetry Society's 2006 Winsome Words Anthology.

Currently, Josie has been working on a non-fiction book, which will be released in October 2007, entitled "How the Italians Created Canada."
