Beyond My Knowing

Anna Yin was born in China and graduated from NanJing University with a B.S. in Computer Science. She immigrated to Canada in 1999 and makes her living as a software developer in an IT company.

Having just started her career in poetry two years ago, Anna Yin was surprised to win the prestigious Ted Plantos Memorial Award from the Ontario Poetry Society in 2005. Her poem "Toronto, No More Weeping", was aired by CBC radio soon after the award.

Currently she has had more than 30 poems published across the country. She also published two English poetry booklets Beyond My Knowing & Jasmine Star Light, and one English/Chinese booklet Farewell to Sunflowers. She's a member of the Canadian Federation of Poets and TOPS. She is also: Director of the Canadian Chinese Poets Association, The Chinese Literature Society of North America and Editor of the bilingual literary journal North American Maple

Her poems, As I.B. Iskov, Founder of the Ontario Poetry Society noted, "Through her delicate, sensitive and haunting manner, Anna Yin's poems will carry you from exciting, exotic places to your own backyard. From Haikus to her sorrowful melodic sweet verses, you will want to read them over and over again." Poet Laureate of the City of Brantford, John B. Lee noted that Yin speaks from the heart; she carries the honor and beauty to life.

Yin writes in both English and Chinese and complements much of her work with pictures. As Yin said, "I have so much passion in poetry. It seems they are my friends and mentors who listen to me and light up my life. I have seen they blend into my mind, my imagination, as the whispering breezes and blooming flowers. They reside there in depth of my heart, what I have to do is to unveil them."

Yin also helps to translate contemporary English poems into Chinese and Chinese Poems into English. She hopes to build the channel as a showcase for multi-culture through those works.

This spring, 2006, Yin's chapbook will be launched in Oakville. She is looking forward to meeting more poets there and seeks constant evaluations and critiques.

Anna Yin love's poetry, music and dance. Though she hardly finds time to pursue these hobbies, she tries her best to improve and enjoy. She lives in Mississauga with her husband and 5 years-old son.
