Can anyone become a member of the CFP?
Yes. Anyone can become a member, from any part of the world, providing they agree to the
basic tenants of the CFP, which are to unite poets and organizations from around the world
in the global promotion of poets and poetry. In addition, you agree to the by-laws and
principals, and are among those in search of peace, and the betterment of society.
These include:
UNITE poets, organizations, publishers and persons interested in poetry and related subjects for fellowship and mutual support in promoting the creative importance of poetry in the national and global environments.
PROMOTE an improvement in the welfare, recognition and professional standing of practicing poets in the community.
PROMOTE activities which will increase the appreciation of poetry and publications.
STIMULATE activities towards the growth of Canadian culture and public interest in such matters.
ESTABLISH, promote, support and encourage poets, poetry organizations, venues, events, and other institutions and organizations engaged in activities connected with poetry and poetry appreciation.
PROVIDE a community portal for the sharing and dissemination of information and ideas.
PUBLISH, print, distribute and support books, magazines, pamphlets and publications of all kinds devoted to the interest of poetry and poets.
IMPROVE the growth of emerging and established poets through educational activities and programs.
PROMOTE, encourage, and co-operate with societies having similar objectives.
ENCOURAGE the establishment of chapters/Federations and Affiliate Federations within Canada and the world.
What are the fees to become a member of the CFP?
The fees vary depending on whether you are from Canada, the US, or International. The fees
are posted here
Do you hold any events or is this strictly an online organization?
This is both. We have a very strong online community through the forums,
and email and newsletters. In addition, we hold events at the local level, that are
operated by CFP members. These can be
as official as a local Federation/Branch or a member
simply wanting to get together with other poets. All events are promoted on the
online calendar and through our Free newsletter.
If you are a CFP member, or affiliate, you should contact us to ensure your events
appear here.
What are the benefits of membership?
There are lots of benefits to membership, including a free one-year subscription to
Poetry Canada magazine, promotion of you, your events, your books, ability to
submit poetry for anthologies and contests, access to contest calls and events,
participation in book fairs, and much more. You can find a detailed list of benefits
here.
Is there anything I can do on this site for free?
Yes there is. You can participate in the online forums, post your poetry for viewing,
critique, or consideration by Poetry Canada magazine, you can sign up for the newsletter
and participate in calls, events, and contests. If you are a youth aged 15 or under, you
can actually become an official member, for FREE. In addition, you can participate in the
Education section and learn all about poetry, and post your results/lesson completions in
a fun 52-week poetry program. CFP members can get actual certification for this process.
Do you publish poetry books?
We don't publish a poets' book per say, but we do create anthologies that are an amalgamation
of members works. This is a submission based and judged process, but the end result is a very
high quality and well read book. An example is the sold out release of
The Future Looks Bright. If you are looking for a contract publisher, we have a list
of these that we recommend, and have used.
Can I volunteer for the Canadian Federation of Poets?
You sure can. We have a number of excellent volunteers, because the way society is today,
we don't make a profit, so can't afford the normal office/staff environments. We depend
on volunteers to help the society grow, and in return, we offer promotional opportunities
for yourself, your events, and your books/CDs through the newsletter, website, and Poetry
Canada magazine. You can take a look at the volunteer positions
that are still available, select one, and apply, or if you have a skill you would like to
provide for us, simply email us with how you can help. We appreciate it very much.
