Mar 2011 - When tragedies strike, like the 8.9 earthquake in Japan, and the devastating Tsunami as a result - it is the spoken and visual word that can help express the situation, remind people to help, guide those seeking an outlet for their pain and frustration, and it's up to poets like you, to get writing.

For the next 30 days, please use your powers and skills to encourage others to help, let those affected know we care, and keep hope alive for survivors and their families.

    Then APRIL is POETRY MONTH!

We have lots of activity happening with local Federations so be sure to check the calendar for dates and times, or get in touch with local groups.

Reminder If you haven't already registered to pay via paypal - it is time to renew/join using this method so you can continue to be a part of a great organization

    Thanks

Enjoy the month and keep on creating  :)

            OPRAH AND POETRY

    Oprah Magazine -
    First EVER Poetry Edition

I subscribe to Oprah magazine, because what she has in there, become trending topics on the internet, so I use it as a marketing tool.

Much to my delight - it was FULL of poetry mentions.

She is promoting April as POETRY Month. This could be the greatest marketing leverage of all time. What she says - becomes LAW. NOW is the time to promote yourself, poetry and the beauty of this medium (not to mention when you create empowering poetry you assist the healing of the planet)

Even Maria Shriver collaberated on Oprah's FIRST EVER POETRY ISSUE.

In addition, she will have spawned a new generation of poetry readers with her recommendation of the top 20 poetry books.

Here is a list of some she recommended:

    - The Poetry of Robert Frost
    - The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson

    - The Complete Collected Works of Maya Angelou

    - Ariel - The Restored Edition by Sylvia Plath
    - Migration by WS Merwin (US Poet Laureate)

    - Open Ground By Seamus Heaney (Nobel Laureate)
    - EE Cummings - 1904 -1962

Oprah has the touch of Gold - she can bring things from obscurity to every day life.

Leverage this opportunity - Blog, tweet, Facebook, do everything in your power to let the world know POETRY ROCKS!

Are you a CFP member and write articles?

Send them in too. They can be considered for this newsletter or posted to the CFP blogl. That is free publicity and promotion whether you are a poet, editor or publicist. The articles should be how to, tips and tricks, getting published type. Anything that helps a poet take their craft to the next level.
