    NEWSLETTER UPGRADES

I have had many recipients of the ezine ask if we could increase the frequency so that the events later in the month got a second chance and reminder. This was always a great idea, but putting together the newsletter is a huge job.

Nonetheless, the people have spoken so as of now the frequency will increase to 2 times per month, beginning and mid-month. This will allow poets who have events pop up at the end of the month get a chance at promoting them. We will simply break the newsletter into a smaller unit, and give you the information in more manageable reading chunks, at twice the frequency.

Thanks everyone for caring about your community, and providing me with feedback to get you what you need, when you need it.
    RENAISSANCE CAFE:

  • Looking to pick up a copy of Poetry Canada magazine. Well you can now get it at Toronto's One-stop-artist-spot, The Renaissance Cafe - 1938 Danforth Avenue. More details at: www.RenaissanceCafe.ca
  • To me there is something magical about January. Even though it is full of cold snow, I always get a sense of renewal, and rebirth. I put together my plan for the year, and I don't break it. This isn't a one line, casual, I should lose weight, quit something, do something type of afterthought - but a sit down, and really postulate what I want the next year to look like, and then a plan to make it happen.

So what's in store for 2006? Lots of what 2005 contained, and more. Last month we had a record breaking number of annual subscribers to Poetry Canada magazine. This year we need advertisers. I want to see Poetry Canada in FULL COLOUR - and only advertisers can do that for us. So if you have ANY ideas, contacts, yourself included, about who may be interested in helping Poetry Canada, art, culture, photography and diversity prosper and flourish, while they promote their goods and services, let me know and together we can fulfil our dreams.

    Send me an email.

    MEMBERS MAKING A DIFFERENCE

  • George Arnold and The Canadian Federation of Poets Oakville Chapter was instrumental in saving the Oakville Arts Council which was to be disbanded this January.

In a rare move by determined artists, Oakville has had their arts Council rescued by a committed group of members representing a variety of arts. When the council’s board of directors recommended closure on the strength of a 6% deficit; literary, visual, and performance artists rallied fellow members and business sponsors. The result was the defeat of the recommendations by an 80 to 27 vote and the commitment of sufficient members to replace the current board all of whose members, save one, stepped down.

The new board including Oakville CFP chair George Arnold has now begun the reformation of the council to bring it back to its members. The challenge left them with 18 days before the slated closure, but the recovery has gone well with the major interruptions halted and repaired. George has also become the head of the editorial commitee for the Council's magazine, Arts About Town. The CFP is active and making a difference in Oakville!

We can all take one step to making poetry, arts and literature a priority. Look in your area to see where you can help, or participate in an upcoming event. Take the time to share yourself with others, and you too will grow.
